ACADEMIC ENRICHMENT

Accelerated Reader - Richard Raeside
& Karin Hughes
Accelerated Reader is a voluntary reading program for
grades 2-5 designed to increase reading skills while
earning points for incentives. After reading one of over
4,000 Accelerated Reader books available in the Media
Center or public library, a child takes a brief quiz on the
computer to check for comprehension. The child earns points
based on his/her performance and the difficulty of the
book. When the child's point total exceeds designated award
levels described in the incentive program, he/she is
awarded the specified rewards. This committee helps
organize and administer the program by selecting and
training volunteers from each 2nd through 5th grade
classroom, keeps records of student points, selects books
to be included in future test purchases, awards students
who have attained certain point levels and maintains the
eagles on the walls of the hallways. Classroom
volunteers administer the recording keeping of student
progress.
